TRELISKE HOSPITAL (CORNWALL)

Hospital interior with EA-RS fire safety nurse call and security systems installed

1. The Client Brief

Kier Construction was refurbishing an area within Treliske Hospital, where the sprinkler system was to be temporarily disabled. This
presented issues for the NHS Trust, insurers, and local fire services on how best to protect patients and staff during the refurbishment process of approximately fifteen weeks. Fire can be a particular hazard due to flammable materials such as adhesives, hot works, and construction plants and machinery.

2. Our Solution

Having worked with Kier Construction previously at Queen Alexandra Hospital, they understood the benefits of UltraGuard water mist and detection system for providing early warning fire suppression during refurbishment. After reviewing the refurbishment plans and drawings, EA-RS, as Surefire Services, recommended the installation of six UltraGuard units to protect the area adequately. Test data, specifications, and supporting documentation were submitted to the NHS Trust Fire Officer for authorisation before any work took place.

3. Results

EA-RS, as Surefire, installed six UltraGuard units and completed training for the Kier Construction staff on how to install and fault find.

Five months after the initial installations, our engineer returned to decommission the UltraGuard units which were left with the customer for use on future projects.
