A misting system extinguished a kitchen fire, allowing a vulnerable pensioner to remain safely at home.
In Hull, a vulnerable pensioner faced significant fire risks due to limited mobility and living alone. Recognizing the potential danger, local authorities and fire safety experts sought to implement an advanced fire protection solution tailored to the needs of at-risk residents. The primary objective was to safeguard the pensioner from the threat of fire and ensure their safety in the event of an emergency.
However, the Humberside Fire and Rescue service were called to the residency after a fire broke out when the resident left some food in the oven for too long. Thankfully, the Ultraguard fire system was activated and managed to save the pensioners life.
The UltraGuard system has been very successful in similar areas following the potential risk of fires. This set up a number of alarms in houses with vulnerable people. The instillation has proven to be a great success with high community officers with them urging elderly customers to install them in the house.
When the fire crews from Hull arrived, they found the fire fully extinguished by the UltraGuard system, demonstrating its efficacy in managing fire incidents in vulnerable households.
The successful activation of the UltraGuard system in Hull not only averted a potentially catastrophic fire but also protected the resident, enabling them to continue safely living in a residency that is well protected from major fire hazards. The incident highlighted the life-saving capabilities of personal protection systems and reinforced Humberside’s ongoing efforts to install these systems in other vulnerable homes across the county.
Humberside’s initiative to install UltraGuard systems has already been successful, with plans for further expansion. This proactive strategy ensures that the most vulnerable members of the community are shielded from fire hazards, significantly reducing the risk of fully developed fires that could threaten lives and properties. The collaboration between the HFSR, NHS Hull and other partners exemplifies a successful model of integrating advanced technology with community-based support to enhance fire safety and promote independence among vulnerable populations.
