Upgrading an ageing fire alarm system while keeping a busy London office fully operational.
The client wanted to move away from their incumbent provider and needed the fire alarm system replaced as the existing Simplex system was now obsolete and spare parts were becoming harder to find. The building had been subject to several fit outs over the years and cabling to these areas had faults and could not be trusted. The client needed to keep the building operational whilst carrying out the replacement works. At the same time there were fit out works being carried out by tenants and landlords on multiple floors.
EA-RS were chosen for the works as our solution on replacing the system, working alongside Simplex, and retaining as much of the existing cabling was by far the best solution.
After reviewing the existing cause and effect that the fire alarm was controlling, along with the loop configurations, it was decided that the new fire alarm equipment prescribed would be Protec.
We surveyed the building out of hours and identified area’s that needed re-wiring and areas that needed more detailed surveys. We also highlighted all the existing faults on the system.
From this survey we were able to develop a programme of works that would tie in any remedial works as part of the replacement project whilst also running concurrently with two fit out projects. The majority of the works were completed out of hours.
All works were carried out on time and the client, fitter and FM companies were all extremely happy with the end result.
